The PA Land Trust Association recently released its 2019 Biennial Census Report which highlights these accomplishments of land trusts in Pennsylvania between 2010 and 2019--
-- On average, conserved 55 acres every day;
-- Conserved 201,800 acres of land (315 sq. mi. – roughly the size of Lehigh County);
-- 797,200 total acres conserved by land trusts in Pennsylvania;
-- 64 organizations own 121,107 acres, top 10 are: The Conservation Fund, Western PA Conservancy, Natural Lands, The Nature Conservancy-PA, Lancaster Conservancy, Earth Conservancy, Brandywine Conservancy, Wildlands Conservancy, Hawk Mountain Sanctuary and Allegheny Land Trust;
-- 65 organizations own conservation easements on 275,694 acres, top 10 are: Western PA Conservancy, Brandywine Conservancy, The Nature Conservancy-PA, Lancaster Farmland Trust, Natural Lands, Farm & Natural Lands Trust of York County, Land Conservancy of Adams County, North Branch Land Trust, Delaware Highlands Conservancy and Berks Nature.
-- Expanded the lands they have conserved by 34 percent;
-- Increased their acreage protected with perpetual conservation easements by 38 percent;
-- Increased their acreage owned by 51 percent;
-- Increased by 27 percent the land transferred to governments for parks, game lands, and other public conservation purposes; and
-- 84 land trusts have completed conservation real estate transactions in Pennsylvania.
