Interesting fact: The Department of Environmental Protection publishes 30 to 50 pages of notices in the PA Bulletin every week alerting the public to proposed or final permit actions it is taking. The July 9 PA Bulletin has 34 pages, for example.
DEP is by far the biggest single user of the PA Bulletin in terms of providing public notice of its proposed and final actions and how the public can comment.
Every year, somewhere between 30,000 and 36,000 permit applications are submitted to DEP for review, according to DEP’s Permit Decision Guarantee Program. 89 percent of the applications accepted for review meet the Permit Decision Guarantee deadlines.
