The PA Association of Environmental Educators is now accepting registrations for its 2015 Conference on March 13-14 at the Lake Raystown Resort and Lodge.
This year, we're taking the idea of connections to the next level. Workshops will focus on connecting Pennsylvania's formal and non-formal environmental educators with their peers, the environment, and the many rich resources available in the region.
Local experts will share their experience, educational best practices, current research, and funding opportunities. Workshops include topics such as:
-- Project Budburst: Citizen science for every season: Join the Citizen Science movement and connect people with nature! Learn about one of the top 10 citizen science programs in the USA from one of only 6 certified instructors in the US. Learn about the resources available, get experience using BudBurst, and leave with resources and knowledge you can adapt to your classroom, programs or environmental center.
-- Nature Journaling: Nature journals have been used by naturalists and scientists since the 1700's to track changes in natural systems such as migration patterns and climate change. Participants will learn how to make nature journals with a class using recycled materials. Then we'll put them to use by going outside to journal.
-- Engaging with the outdoors through mobile devices: This session will provide a hands-on opportunity to learn about and explore mobile computer programs designed for outdoor spaces. A summary of recent research efforts on mobile learning at Shaver's Creek Environmental Center and outdoor-based mobile design recommendations will be included.
Registration is also open for Project WET and Project Learning Tree facilitator workshops on March 12.
