The deadline to apply is September 30.
The mission of the Sacred Grounds program is to promote the installation of native plant gardens that connect people to nature and provide access to nature for all, particularly in urban communities where Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) have less access to nature and safe green spaces
Houses of worship are respected community institutions that are uniquely positioned to implement and showcase stewardship practices that have profound impacts, inspire their congregation members, neighbors, and the greater interfaith community to adopt and expand these practices.
From ecosystem health to economic stability and environmental justice, this program offers an integrated pathway toward a better quality of life.
Native plants are not only a foundation for healthy ecosystems and wildlife, but also play an important role in mental, physical, and social health by providing opportunities for people to connect to nature in their neighborhoods and communities.
Native plants can also help to manage stormwater and reduce flooding, support local food cultivation, improve water quality, and enhance community resilience.
Selected applicants will receive funding and support for designing and planting a pollinator garden.
While we have limited funds for pollinator garden installation, educational events and resources will be available to all communities and individuals in Philadelphia, Wilmington, and beyond, regardless of whether you have a garden, are getting a garden, or are considering one!
Events will include virtual and in-person info/listening sessions, field trips to existing gardens, in Wilmington and Philadelphia, educational workshops, monarch migration events, maintenance workshops, and more!
