The event will be held from Noon to 2:00 p.m. at Evergreen WB, 27 E Northampton St, Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County.
This hands-on educational event will highlight the vital role that native flora plays in creating healthy habitats for wildlife, especially pollinators.
Participants will learn how to choose the right native species for different parts of their property, whether it’s a backyard meadow, a garden bed, or a small patio planter.
Led by Senior Director of Conservation and Operations, Emma Thompson, attendees will explore the differences between native and non-native species common in gardening and landscaping.
Thoughtful planting can enhance both the beauty and biodiversity of our communities.
Leah Malarkey, Environmental Education Coordinator, will explain the species, importance, and needs of pollinators in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
Learn more about how planting with native species can provide critical food and protection for pollinators year-round.
Novice and expert gardeners alike will learn something new about caring for our resident flowers.
By the conclusion of the event, attendees will be ready to cultivate and care for their own native meadow, big or small.
Following discussions, each attendee will create a native seed mix tailored to the needs of their landscape, beds, or planters.
Program leaders will give specific guidance and answer questions on best practices, and attendees will also take home a variety of native plant resources.
Senior Director of Conservation and Operations, Emma Thompson, said, “As a conservation organization, we want our community to not only be aware of invasive species but also appreciate the benefits of native species in a biodiverse community! This event is ideal for homeowners, gardeners, educators, and anyone interested in learning how small changes at home can lead to big benefits for the environment.”
