This innovative program provides residents with a higher quality glass recycling option than typical curbside programs, ensuring that glass deposited into the bin meets the highest standards and can be fully recycled.
In August, PRC’s Traveling Glass Recycling Bin will be in these communities--
-- August 3-8: Lawrence County Government Center, Intersection of Court and Walnut Streets New Castle, PA 16101 hosted by Lawrence County
-- August 3-15: Elizabeth Forward Middle School (Allegheny County), 401 Rock Run Rd, Elizabeth, PA 15037 hosted by Elizabeth Forward School District
-- August 10-15: Settlers Cabin Park (Allegheny County), Park Office Parking Lot hosted by Allegheny County
-- August 31 – Sept. 5: Springfield Township Municipal Building (Mercer County), 406 Old Ash Road, Mercer, PA 16137 hosted by Mercer County
-- Now Through Sept. 6: Haverford Township Office (Delaware County), lower parking lot at 1014 Darby Road, Havertown, PA 19083.
Throughout the engagements, individuals can drop off glass bottles, jars and jugs of all colors (no color sorting required). Containers should be empty and rinsed, with lids and labels still on. Bags and boxes used to deliver glass must be discarded off-site.
“Glass is still one of the most recyclable materials we generate in our homes, and the market for glass recycling is very strong,” according to Glass Program Coordinator Ethan Woodfill. “When you take the time to use glass-only drop-off sites, nearly 100 percent of the glass collected is recycled into new bottles and jars, while curbside programs are only able to capture up to 70 percent of glass for recycling, and a bottle, jar or jug dropped in the bin today could be recycled and back on a store shelf in less than 30 days.”
PRC launched its glass recycling campaign in 2019 with a series of pop-up events in response to the elimination of glass in numerous curbside programs.
Last year alone, PRC’s program enabled more than 50,000 Pennsylvania households to drop off 2 million pounds of glass bottles, jars and jugs for recycling.
