PA Resources Council, Partners Host Feb. 11 Webinar On Rain Gardens, Stormwater Management For Homeowners

The
PA Resources Council and its partners will host a February 11 webinar on rain gardens and stormwater management for homeowners from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.

The Zoom webinar session is presented by Darby Creek Valley Association, Eastern Delaware County Stormwater Collaborative, Upper Darby Rain Gardens and PRC.

“Rain gardens reduce flooding and storm water pollution, improving water quality in our streams and rivers for aquatic life and recreational users,” according to Diana Andrejczak, PRC Eastern Program Director.  “During the workshop we’ll discuss problems associated with uncontrolled stormwater runoff and how a rain garden can improve water quality in your community.”

“Rain gardens are beautiful landscaped areas built down – instead of up – to intercept runoff from buildings, driveways and other impervious surfaces before it can reach storm sewers and streams,” explains Andrejczak.  “Small gardens are typically 6 to12 inches deep and drain within a day or two after rain.  Since rain gardens feature water- and drought-tolerant native plants, there is little or no need to water plants after they are established in a rain garden.”

Participants will learn how to construct rain gardens on their properties, how to maintain rain gardens and how to incorporate general watershed-friendly landscaping techniques.
