On May 14, staff from DEP's Bureaus of Labs and Radiation Protection hosted a delegation of visitors from the Fukushima Prefectural Government who came to Harrisburg to learn about Pennsylvania’s surveillance program of nuclear power plants.
The group of visitors included a director of the Nuclear Safety Division in Fukushima’s Prefectural Government, a chairperson on the board of executives for a university and senior staff from the Fukushima Prefectural Government.
During the meeting, Bureau of Radiation Protection Director Dave Allard and Radiation Health Physicist Randy Easton gave presentations on Pennsylvania’s nuclear reactor system, DEP’s Emergency Response Program in the event of a nuclear accident, methods of briefings for residents and the media, and EPA’s Protective Action Manual.
After the presentation, DEP Bureau of Labs Director Martina McGarvey, Technical Lab Director Tarulatta Upadhyay and Radiation Chemistry Section Chief Janelle Barry gave a tour of the Radiation Chemistry Laboratory and the field monitoring vehicles.
