DEP - Day 5,284: Pressure Testing Confirms Shale Gas Well Casing/Cementing Failure Continues At EXCO Resources PA Well Pad In Sullivan County

On August 31, 2026, the Department of Environmental Protection observed pressure testing on the EXCO Resources PA LLC  Wistar Shaffer Tracts 1H shale gas well in Shrewsbury Township, Sullivan County that confirmed continuing casing/cementing failure in the well.

EXCO was issued a violation on March 13, 2012 for failing to report a casing/cementing failure in the well.  The well was spud [drilled] in October 2010.

At the time of this inspection, two new shale gas wells were being drilled on the pad.

DEP continued the violation and typically will require continued well monitoring.
