Franklin Kury
A leader in the enactment of environmental law, Kury rode a clean streams platform to the first of three terms in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, followed by two terms in the Pennsylvania State Senate.
He authored and was lead advocate of the Environmental Rights Amendment to the Pennsylvania Constitution—adopted May 18, 1971—that declares a right to a clean environment by the people and makes the state government the trustee of the public natural resources. Kury’s recent book, The Constitutional Right to Save the Planet, marks the 50th anniversary of this environmental milestone.
Andrew Johnson
With deep experience in the environmental field—including serving in a leadership role at PEC—Johnson’s groundbreaking work as Director of Watershed Protection Programs at the William Penn Foundation, significantly advanced the mission of the Foundation to protect the Delaware River watershed and improve the overall quality of life for the people of our region.
Johnson transformed how nonprofits work together in the watershed, including successfully launching several networks organized around key issues, such as the Delaware River Watershed Initiative, the Circuit Trails Coalition, and the Alliance for Watershed Education of the Delaware River.
Bartram’s Garden

Bartram’s Garden is a place where people of all ages can access the Lower Schuylkill River for boating, fishing, and exploring and is Southwest Philly’s backyard, partnering with local creators, educators, entrepreneurs, and leaders. The agricultural legacy and modern commitment to food sovereignty takes root at the Sankofa Community Farm at Bartram’s.
