DEP Hearing Feb. 26 [If Needed] On Chesapeake Energy Request To Waive Setback For Well To Be Drilled In Bradford County

The Department of Environmental Protection has scheduled a hearing for February 26 on a request by Chesapeake Energy to waive the 330-foot setback required by the Oil and Gas Conservation Law for a natural gas well to be drilled in Wyalusing and Tuscarora townships in Bradford County.  (Feb. 8 PA Bulletin, page 880)
Chesapeake Energy is proposing to drill the MTL 6H Well, which will penetrate the Onondaga formation therefore the wellbore is subject to the Oil and Gas Conservation Law. 
A well subject to the OGCL must be at least 330 feet from the nearest outside boundary line of the lease on which it is located, or if the lease is included in a voluntary unit, the well must be located 330 feet from the nearest unit line. 
The 330-foot setback applies to the entire length of both the vertical and horizontal well bore.

If no requests are made to testify, DEP may cancel the hearing.  The deadline for written comments is March 7.
The hearing will be held at the Wyalusing Township Office, 2473 Old Stagecoach Road, Wyalusing from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.
