The Brodhead Watershed Association will host a Penn State Master Gardener Workshop on June 2 to share the secrets of gardening with native plants. The workshop will start at 7 p.m. at Hughes Library, 1002 N. Ninth St., Stroudsburg.
The event is free. Registration is not required.
Jen Bradley, master gardener and Brodhead Watershed Association member, will discuss why native plants are best. These plants are adapted to the local environment, which makes them easier to care for, hardy and beneficial to wildlife.
Bradley will have growing tips, as well as suggestions for plant species to fit any gardening situation.
The workshop is held in conjunction with BWA’s popular annual Native Plant Sale, which will feature rare and sought-after native plants and shrubs that often aren’t available at commercial retailers.
The sale will be held June 3-4, at Pocono Township Fire Company’s “carnival building” on Route 611, Tannersville. Friday’s sale, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., is for BWA members only.
Sign up for membership at the sale and receive a 10 percent discount on plant purchases. Saturday’s sale, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., is open to the public.
