PA Environment Digest Blog: PennLive: Attorney General Sunday Files More Criminal Charges Against Eureka Resources, This Time For Releasing Oily Oil & Gas Wastewater From Its Williamsport Plant Last August

On August 4, John Beauge reported on PennLive.com, state Attorney General Sunday has filed more criminal charges against Eureka Resources for illegally discharging roughly 16,000 gallons of oily oil and gas wastewater from its Williamsport Plant last August.

About half of the liquid escaped tank containment and left the building. Some of the wastewater entered the storm sewer, which emptied into the river and was reported to officials by people fishing on the Susquehanna River.

Eureka Resources ceased processing oil and gas wastes in June 2024 and has sold its business operations at all three of its three treatment plant properties despite not having all remaining waste removed yet, according to the Middle Susquehanna RiverKeeper. Read more here.

On June 9, 2026, John Beauge reported on PennLive.com Attorney General Sunday filed criminal charges against Eureka Resources for oil and gas wastewater leaks from its Standing Stone Facility in Wysox Township, Bradford County, one of three now closed treatment facilities owned by the company..

Eureka is charged with seven counts of criminally violating three different sections of the Solid Waste Management Act. Read more here.
