Better Path Coalition Hosts March 24 Program: ‘In the Footsteps of Rachel Carson: Lessons for Our Time’ Discussion With Author Patricia DeMarco, Ph.D

The
Better Path Coalition and Pennsylvania Climate Convergence Network are hosting a book discussion and signing with Pittsburgh-based author Patricia DeMarco on March 24 at 7:00  p.m. at the Unitarian Church of Harrisburg, 1280 Clover Lane.

Her new book, In the Footsteps of Rachel Carson: Harnessing Earth’s Healing Power, “takes us with her through the jungles of Brazil to the snowy Alaskan wilderness, beginning and ending in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, her beloved hometown. 

Patricia shares her journey with us as she battles cancer, misogyny, big business, and corporate greed along the way—always sustained by family, flora, and fauna. 

Patricia provides an important message throughout her memoir that ‘the laws of nature are non-negotiable,’” says Your Spiritual Journey Podscaster, Bob Dove, Ph.D.

DeMarco is a native of Pittsburgh, PA. with a doctorate in Biology from the University of Pittsburgh. She has spent a fifty -year career in energy and environmental policy in both private and public sector positions. 

She served as Executive Director of the Rachel Carson Homestead Association (2006-2011) and as Director of the Rachel Carson Institute at Chatham University where she holds an appointment as Senior Scholar and Adjunct Faculty.(2011-present).

She holds the position of VicePresident of the Forest Hills Borough Council and sits on the Board of Trustees for Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, and for The Allegheny Land Trust.

Her first book, titled Pathways to Our Sustainable Future – A Global Perspective from Pittsburgh explores positive pathways toward sustainability, based on 28 case studies in Pittsburgh. It was published by The University of Pittsburgh Press in 2017.

The event is open to the public free of charge. Doors open at 6:45 p.m.. RSVPs are appreciated, but not required.
