Exploring Forest Carbon: Management, Markets & Policy For Forest Landowners Oct. 12 Webinar

Carbon storage and what it means for Pennsylvania’s forested landowners will be the theme of the Exploring Forest Carbon: Management, Markets and Policy panel discussion, open to the public, to be held online at noon, Tuesday, October 12. 

The panelists will include--

-- Kevin Yoder, forester for the Family Forest Carbon Program; 

-- Ellen Shultzabarger, Pennsylvania State Forester, and director of the state’s Bureau of Forestry; and 

-- Matt Gabler, executive director of the Pennsylvania Forest Products Association. 

The event will be moderated by Calvin Norman, a Forestry and Wildlife Extension Educator at Penn State University.

Topics include how trees store carbon and why that matters, how carbon markets can generate income for small forest landowners, and the importance of a robust wood products market in preserving forested land.

They also will discuss how to weave carbon storage into the management of forests, conservation policies and priorities, forest management resources, and how to leave a healthy forest for our children and grandchildren.

The free event is sponsored by the State College and Susquehanna Valley chapters of Citizens’ Climate Lobby (CCL).

“Interest in natural carbon storage is on the rise,” says Cathy Cullen, a Citizens’ Climate Lobby volunteer who organized the panel. “We’ve asked three experts to look at why industry, landowners, and policymakers are talking about forest carbon. We think this will be of special interest to forest landowners everywhere.”

While there is no charge to attend this online event, registration is required.
