Schuylkill River Heritage Area: Volunteers Wanted For Schuylkill County Projects

The Schuylkill River Heritage Area is seeking volunteers to help with two projects in Schuylkill County— establishing a community garden in Mahanoy City and setting up a Heritage Conservation Corps to, among other projects, expand the Schuylkill River Trail.
Here’s more information about both projects--
-- Community Garden: A community garden is being pursued in Mahanoy City as part of the Healthy Mahanoy project facilitated by Schuylkill County’s VISON and partially supported by Walk Works of the University of Pittsburgh, FABCON Precast, and community members. Healthy Mahanoy’s Community Garden will likely implement a garden plot rental style for a small annual fee; it is anticipated that all work will be voluntary and not compensated.
-- Heritage Conservation Corps: A Heritage Conservation Corps is being pursued in Schuylkill County to expand the Schuylkill River Trail, assist local organizations, as well as provide career development opportunities to youth and young adults. The Corps program will hire paid full-time temporary crew member and crew leader positions. A summer 2017 pilot program will work on a trail segment from Schuylkill Haven to Pottsville.
