From 1958 to 1999, the Precision Facility was used as a chrome-plating facility. During the period from 1956 to 1970, chromium wastes were disposed of in an unlined lagoon at the northern end of the facility.
In May 1970, chromium-contaminated liquids leaked from a break in the lagoon’s retaining wall and were absorbed into soils in a drainage pathway leading from the break in the lagoon wall.
In the proposed consent order,Precision agreed to: (1) Complete all corrective actions noted in the Administrative Order on Consent dated May 3, 2012; (2) Work with Pennsylvania American Water Company for the installation of a waterline extension at and around the Site; and (3) Procure Environmental Covenants on properties impacted by or threatened to be impacted by chromium contamination from the Site.
Comments are due February 19, 2025.
