PA General Energy - Shawnee Water Withdrawal
The Department of Environmental Protection published notice in the August 19 PA Bulletin inviting comments on a revised Chapter 105 encroachment permit for the PA General Energy Shawnee shale gas drilling water withdrawal structure and pipeline utility crossing built out of compliance with its original permit. (PA Bulletin, page 5216)
The project is located in Gamble and Plunketts Creek Townships in Lycoming County and withdraws water from the Exceptional Value Loyalsock Creek.
The Susquehanna River Basin Commission is also accepting public comments on a major modification to its permit for the water withdrawal structure for the same reason. Read more here.

Storage Tank Containment Standard Variance
-- American Refining Group Refinery - 10 Aboveground Storage Tanks: DEP issued a variance under the state Storage Tank and Spill Prevention Act to the Refinery in Bradford, McKean County from the requirement to install emergency containment structures for 10 aboveground petroleum product storage tanks that meet a 1 x 10 to -6 maximum permeability requirement.
