University of Pittsburgh, Atlantic Council Host April 12 Webinar On State Of Abandoned Mine Reclamation, PA Perspectives

The University of Pittsburgh
Graduate School of Public and International Affairs and the Atlantic Council will host an April 12 webinar on the State Of Abandoned Mine Reclamation - Perspectives From Pennsylvania Stakeholders starting at Noon.

The 2021 federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act marks a new era in abandoned mine reclamation, appropriating $11.3 billion to states and tribes for such work.

The webinar is based on a 2021 listening session and follow-up conversations with stakeholders in reclamation in Pennsylvania.

A special report was published in March summarizing and discussing stakeholder perspectives on the state of abandoned mine reclamation, including the challenges they identified to expanding—or, in some cases, merely preserving—progress in repairing damages from abandoned coal mines.

Speakers include:

-- John Stefanko, DEP Deputy Secretary For Active & Abandoned Mine Operations

-- Jeremy Weber, Associate Professor, University of Pittsburgh, GSPIA

-- Kelsey Forren, Associate Director of the Global Energy Center, Atlantic Council

-- Welcome remarks from Carissa Slotterback, Dean of GSPIA
