Independence Conservancy Walk In Penn’s Woods Oct. 3 At Rocky Bend Nature Preserve Beaver County

Join
Independence Conservancy for a “Walk in Penn’s Woods” on Sunday, October 3 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Rocky Bend Nature Preserve, 247 Raccoon Creek Road, Potter Township, Monaca PA 15061.

Explore the scenic Raccoon Creek Greenway with its rocky cliffs, wooded hillsides and quiet shorelines.  Highlights include a natural stream bank repair under construction, a grove of giant sassafras trees, and a maturing wetland-meadow teeming with songbirds.

Experts will be on hand to answer your questions about wild birds, fish, forestry, nature photography, geology, streams, wetlands, and local history.

The walk is one mile over mowed grass and bare earth with a few short, moderate climbs. A restroom is available. Dress for the weather and wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes or boots.

This walk is not suitable for wheelchairs or strollers. People-friendly leashed pets are allowed; owners must clean up after their pets.

There is no rain date.

Participants are asked to observe social distance and wear face covering according to their own preference.

Since 2017, the first Sunday in October has been set aside for Pennsylvanians to join hosted walks to learn more about Penn’s Woods and gain easy access to expert forest and wildlife professionals.

Walk in Penn’s Woods” raises awareness about the importance of forests in our lives and the effort that goes into caring for them.
