Join the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, 3 Rivers Wet Weather, ALCOSAN, Allegheny County Conservation District, Dept. of Environmental Protection, PA Emergency Management Agency, Federal Emergency Management Agency, Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority, Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission and Watersheds of South Pittsburgh for a flood education workshop series to answer those questions.
You'll learn about the basics of flooding, how to prepare and protect yourself and your property, available resources and contacts, and other important information to empower yourself and the people you care about before, during and after a flood.
The goal of these workshops can help create better prepared and flood-resilient communities.
Workshop Schedule
There are a total of five virtual sessions, lasting about an hour starting at 6:00 p.m. each Tuesday from July 27th to August 24th.
Please attend each session for a complete learning experience.
The first 100 people who register can attend the live series. Each of the five sessions will be recorded and available to view online.

-- What a watershed is and how it functions.
-- How water management affects the watershed.
-- The different types of flooding and why flooding may occur where you live.
-- August 3: Where Flooding Occurs and How You Can Find Out--
-- Where flooding has occurred in the past and where it is likely to occur in the future.
-- What information is available for you to find out where flooding is likely to occur.
-- What you can do as a homeowner, business owner, or renter to understand and prepare for flood risk.
-- August 10: Preparation & Mitigation for Flooding--
-- What you can do as a homeowner or business owner to mitigate against flooding.
-- What you need to know if you do some mitigation on your own.
-- What options you can pursue if you can’t mitigate against flooding on your own and who can help.
-- August 17: Responding to Flooding--
-- How to find out if flooding is occurring in your area;
-- What you can do to protect yourself, your family, and your home during a flooding event;
-- Who to call and when during a flooding event.
-- August 24: Recovering from Flooding--
-- How to document damages to your structure or property
-- How to report damages to the appropriate organization in order to request assistance.
-- The steps to properly recover from a flood.
