The PA/NJ Chapter of The American Chestnut Foundation is hosting a series of Zoom webinars designed to answer all your questions about the American chestnut during the virtual PA Farm Show January 9 to 16.
The webinars will feature an array of experts on growing, restoring, finding, and farming chestnuts in the Pennsylvania region. All of the webinars will be recorded for future sharing.

-- January 11 - Noon to 1:00 p.m.: Bringing back the American chestnut presented by Mike Aucott, Ph.D., PA/NJ TACF board member and adjunct professor of chemistry, The College of New Jersey
-- January 12 - Noon to 1:00 p.m.: Cooperative solutions for Chestnut Processing — a demonstration of processing equipment by Stephen Hoy, Orchard Manager at Penn State University
-- January 12 - 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.: Chestnut Farming—A Growth Opportunity: A Conversation with Amy Miller, Chestnut Farmer with Route 9 Cooperative hosted by Jim Searing, PA/NJ Chapter Board President
-- January 13 - Noon to 1:00 p.m.: The American chestnut: how biotechnology can be applied to conservation presented by William Powell, Ph.D., Director, American Chestnut Research & Restoration Project, SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, Syracuse, NY
-- January 14 - Noon to 1:00 p.m.: Silvicultural Aspects of American chestnut and Implications for Species Restoration, presented by Sara Fern Fitzsimmons, TACF Director of Restoration and Northern Appalachian Regional Science Coordinator
-- January 14 - 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.: Commercial Chestnut Industry in Michigan: A Model for PA?A Conversation with Roger Blackwell, President of New Era Chestnuts in Milford Michigan hosted by Jim Searing, PA/NJ Chapter Board President
-- January 15 - Noon to 1:00 p.m.: Finding American Chestnuts, presented by Lake Graboski, TACF Board Member and Volunteer, M.S. Ecology, Pennsylvania State University.

Chestnut Chat Jan. 15
Also take advantage of the upcoming online Chestnut Chat on January 15 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to learn about the underlying biology of the Chestnut blight fungus and what’s being done to make it sick using a virus.
Amy Metheny of West Virginia University will give a crash course on the causal organism of chestnut blight, Cryphonectria parasitica, as well as the phenomenon known as hypovirluence, wherein the fungus is infected by a virus.
