New Poll: 64% Of Pennsylvania Voters Support PA Joining Multi-State Transportation Climate Initiative

Overall the entire region of mid-Atlantic and Northeast states, 70 percent of voters support the initiative.

The poll also found 65 percent of voters say Pennsylvania should join the Transportation Climate Initiative as part of the recovery from the COVID pandemic.

The jurisdictions potential included in TCI are the Washington, DC: Connecticut, District of Columbia, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Virginia.

TCI is a regional collaboration of Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states and the District of Columbia that seeks to improve transportation, develop the clean energy economy and reduce carbon emissions from the transportation sector. 

Gov. Wolf has not yet announced whether Pennsylvania is officially joining the Regional Transportation Climate Initiative, but a decision is expected in the next month or so.

Among the other findings of the poll in Pennsylvania are--

-- 61 percent trust Gov. Wolf "a lot" or "some" to provide information about the TCI to the public

-- 40 percent believe isn't investing enough in preparing for the effects of climate change; 26 percent the right amount; 15 percent too much;

-- 39 percent believe state govt. not prepared to address impacts of extreme weather/storms on transportation infrastructure; 25 percent believes they are; 26 percent say the state is prepared;

-- 43 percent believe the state isn't investing enough in reducing pollution that contributes to climate change; 27 percent the right amount; 13 percent said too much;

-- 43 percent think the state isn't investing enough in renewable energy (wind, solar); 26 percent the right amount; 14 percent too much;

-- 29 percent believe the state isn't investing enough in electric vehicle charging stations; 26 percent the right amount; 16 percent too much;
