Wildlife For Everyone: Soaring Eagle Wetland, Centre County

On June 17, the Wildlife for Everyone Foundation announced the name Soaring Eagle Wetland as the new designation of its wetland located in Huston Township, Centre County. 

The name draws on the area’s ecology, referencing the Bald Eagle Creek that forms the southern border of the wetland and the migration of golden eagles along the Bald Eagle Ridge, the largest in the eastern United States.  

The Wildlife for Everyone Foundation is adapting Soaring Eagle Wetland to make it accessible to all individuals regardless of physical ability. 

Currently, a grass trail encircles the wetland, running alongside the riparian buffer of the Bald Eagle Creek. 

In 2021, the Soaring Eagle Wetland will be enhanced with ADA-compliant features that allow all persons, regardless of physical limitation, the opportunity to experience the restorative benefits of nature. 

A new accessible trail through the wetlands will afford visitors glimpses of the multitude of wildlife, wildflowers and unique birds that stop over during their migration. 

The pristine Bald Eagle Creek, accessible fishing pier and wildlife observation area will allow visitors the opportunity to fish and enjoy the beauty of the surrounding area. 

An education pavilion near the entrance will provide opportunities for programs and events. Groundbreaking is expected at the end of this year.
