The Department of Environmental Protection has forecast a Code Orange Air Quality Action Day for ozone for Thursday, January 23 in the Liberty-Clairton area of Allegheny County.
High pressure, both at the surface and aloft, will produce very light to calm winds overnight tonight into the day Thursday across Allegheny County. A strong temperature inversion will act to trap fine particulate matter close to the surface and send concentrations of this pollutant into the code ORANGE range Thursday.
On air quality action days, young children, the elderly and those with respiratory problems, such as asthma, emphysema, and bronchitis, are especially vulnerable to the effects of air pollution and should limit outdoor activities.
Visit DEP’s Air Quality Partnerships webpage for more information on air quality across Pennsylvania.
