Appalachian Regional Commission Dec. 11 Workshop In Somerset County On POWER Grants To Diversify The Economy Of Coal Mining Areas

The Appalachian Regional Commission will host a December 11 workshop for those communities and agencies interested in applying for POWER Grants to help diversify the economies of areas in Appalachia impacted by the downturn in the coal mining industry.
In October, the POWER (Partnerships for Opportunity and Workforce and Economic Revitalization) Initiative awarded 9 grants to communities and organizations in Pennsylvania to support broadband deployment, retraining coal miners and promoting entrepreneurship and local business development.
The workshop will provide prospective applicants with the information they need to apply for POWER Grants.  The request for grant applications will be opening in early December.
The workshop will be held at the Seven Springs Mountain Resort, 777 Water Wheel Drive in Champion, Somerset County from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
To learn more about the program, visit the ARC’s POWER Grants webpage.
