DEP Citizens Advisory Council To Hear Presentations On DEP Climate Plan, Cap-And-Trade Petition, Abandoned Mine Reclamation Fee June 18

The DEP Citizens Advisory Council is scheduled to meet on June 18 to hear presentations on DEP’s Climate Action Plan and the climate cap-and-trade rulemaking petition pending with the Environmental Quality Board.
Jessica Shirley, Director of DEP’s Policy Office, will provide Council with an overview of the new Climate Action Plan released by Gov. Wolf on April 29.
There will also be a presentation on the climate cap-and-trade petition the EQB accepted for study on April 16 that calls for eliminating greenhouse gas emissions from major sources by 2052 in Pennsylvania.
The EQB will be provided with an update on the status of the cap-and-trade petition just prior to the CAC meeting.
John Stefanko, DEP Deputy Secretary for Active and Abandoned Mine Operations will be providing Council with a presentation on efforts to reauthorize the federal Abandoned Mine Reclamation Program fee.  Click Here for his presentation.
Stefanko told CAC in July of last year reauthorizing the federal mine reclamation fee that is due to expire in 2021 is critical to the continued success of Pennsylvania’s Abandoned Mine Reclamation Program.
A copy of DEP’s written Monthly Report to Council is also available.
The meeting will be held in Room 105 of the Rachel Carson Building starting at 10:00.  A Conference Call-In Option is available through: 267-332-8737 Conference ID#: 52478877.
