Food Guy Adventures is partnering with Sustainable Pittsburgh to launch the City’s first sustainability-focused food tour: “A Taste of Sustainability: Cultural District.”
For three Saturdays this summer, June 17, July 15 and August 12, folks can take a guided walking tour that explores the sustainable practices of three designated Sustainable Pittsburgh Restaurants in Pittsburgh’s Cultural District: David L. Lawrence Convention Center, Nine on Nine, and Six Penn Kitchen.
The tours start at 2:30 pm and last three to four hours. Attendees can expect six to eight seasonal appetizer bites and cocktail sips plus a few surprise tastings along the way! The tour is priced at $85 per person and details are found at the Food Guy Adventures website.
“We are excited to be one of the stops on the Food Guy Adventures tour this summer and feature food and beverage items grown in our very own rooftop garden—grown here, prepared here, enjoyed here!” said Dominique C. Metcalfe, Executive Chef at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. “Also on the menu will be a guided tour of the Convention Center, covering kitchens to roof top views,” she said.
The David L. Lawrence Convention Center has earned Platinum Plate designation, the highest designation level that can be achieved to date for a Sustainable Pittsburgh Restaurant.
Nine on Nine Executive Chef Lee Corbett will be sampling from his innovative menu in the restaurant’s private dining room and Six Penn Kitchen will offer a behind the scenes access tour of its rooftop garden.
Nine on Nine and Six Penn are both Gold designated Sustainable Pittsburgh Restaurants.
“We’re excited to participate in the Food Guy Adventures tour,” said David Fortunato, Six Penn Kitchen General Manager. “We’ve been a part of the Pittsburgh food scene for more than ten years and are looking forward to guests experiencing what Six Penn is known for – unique twists on classic dishes.”
Cory Van Horn, Owner and Head Guide at Food Guy Adventures, noted, “Pittsburgh is a city tied together by tradition, food, and community. The tour is designed to showcase world-class cuisine, the City’s dynamic Cultural District and sustainability excellence all in one amazing afternoon.”
“Sustainable Pittsburgh is excited to partner with Food Guy Adventures in the Taste of Sustainability food tour. Visitors will have the opportunity to not only enjoy tasty bites, but also learn how these restaurants are leading the way in making a difference in this region,” said Sustainable Pittsburgh Restaurant’s Program Manager, Rebecca Bykoski.
Administered by Sustainable Pittsburgh, Sustainable Pittsburgh Restaurant is a performance program that recognizes restaurants for implementing practices that are simultaneously benefitting the environment, economy, and society.
Developed with regional experts and industry insights, the program features 149 sustainable actions from which a restaurant can demonstrate and advance its sustainability performance.
Restaurants are recognized with one of five “plates” of designation ranging from a “Starter Plate” to a “Platinum Plate.”
