The April 11 Environmental Issues Forum hosted by the Joint legislative Air and Water Pollution Control and Conservation Committee will feature presentations by the PA Forest Products Association and the American Forest and Paper Association on sustainable manufacturing in the forest products industry.
Pennsylvania has a historical role in the forest products industry, with the first paper mill in the nation built near philadelphia in 1690.
Today, the industry employs over 53,000 Pennsylvanians and produces countless household and commercial goods. The industry has also increased its focus on environmental stewardship by increasing paper recycling, improving energy efficiency, reducing emissions, promoting sustainable forestry practices, improving workplace safety and reducing water use.
The presentation will highlight environmental practices in the forest products industry as well as how state and federal regulations can impact the industry’s future sustainability goals.
The Forum will be held in Room 8E-A of the Capitol’s East Wing starting at noon.
