The Department of Environmental Protection Thursday announced it will host a public hearing on March 3 regarding the prompt interim response cleanup actions taken by DEP at the former Quality Service Cleaners site in Oxford Borough, Chester County.
The hearing will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the Oxford Borough Municipal Building, located at 401 Market Street, Oxford, PA, 19363.
The hearing is intended to allow residents the opportunity to comment on the prompt interim response that was initiated by DEP to address soil contamination and physical hazards associated with an open excavation.
DEP will record testimony and receive written comments throughout the hearing; DEP will also accept written comments until April 15.
Those wishing to testify in person should contact Community Relations Coordinator Virginia Cain at 484-250-5808. Written comments may be sent to Dustin Armstrong, Project Officer at the Department of Environmental Protection, 2 East Main Street, Norristown, PA 19401. Comments may also be emailed to: darmstrong@pa.gov, with the subject clearly stating that the email is intended for public record.
To date, the actions at the site include excavation, offsite shipment and proper treatment and/or disposal of contaminated soils, followed by backfilling and restoration of the site to preconstruction grade.
DEP has determined that these actions are protective of human health and the environment, comply with Applicable, Relevant and Appropriate Requirements (ARARs), are feasible and cost-effective.
Department activities were completed by the end of February 2016.
The administrative record containing the information that documents the selection of this response action is available for review by appointment between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. at DEP Southeast Regional Office, 2 E. Main St., Norristown, PA 19401. Call 484-250-5910 to make an appointment.
