On June 19, shop and celebrate the Sustainable Small Business Designation of a dozen businesses along the Steel Valley Avenues, the business district comprising Homestead, West Homestead, and Munhall in Allegheny County.
Take advantage of sales, raffle prizes, live music, and more!
Individuals are invited to start at the tent in front of Duke’s Upper Deck CafĂ© to pick up an event “passport.” They can then have their passports stamped at each participating business, then drop off the completed passport at the tent to enter to win prizes!
Among the festivities, Dan Knishkowy from Brooklyn-based folk/rock band Adeline Hotel will play live music along 8th Avenue near the registration tent, local artist Baron Batch will conduct a live painting demonstration at Studio AM, and Black Mountain Spirit School of Chinese Kung Fu will be performing martial arts demonstrations throughout the day.
Mirror Image Cuts and Styles will have coupons on hand as well as light refreshments and snacks. Screaming Crow Tattoo and Piercing is offering a jewelry and t-shirt sale, and both Retro on 8th and Voodoo Brewery will hold special business hours and be open during the event.
Sustainable businesses manage and operate in ways that simultaneously are good for their bottom line, the environment, and the social fabric of their communities.
The Southwestern PA Sustainable Small Business Designation, one of Sustainable Pittsburgh's award winning performance programs, recognizes small businesses that incorporate sustainable practices as their strategy for success.
The Steel Valley Avenues Cash Mob is the fourth cash mob Sustainable Pittsburgh’s Champions for Sustainability program has hosted. At past cash mobs, over 80 percent of participating businesses doubled their customers and sales when the cash mob hit them.
All told, there are 170 establishments that have earned the Sustainable Small Business Designation in 30 communities around the region. Individuals are encouraged to visit them all for their shopping needs!
