On May 5 to 12, the Berks County Conservation District will hold its annual high school and middle school Envirothons at Nolde Forest Environmental Education Center.
Teams from school districts all over Berks County will compete in a competition that will test the students’ knowledge on natural resource topics such as forestry, wildlife, soils and land use, and aquatic ecology.
The winning team from the High School County Competition goes on to compete at the State Competition at University of Pittsburgh Johnstown on May 19-20.
“The Berks County Envirothon is more than just memorizing facts for a competition,” said Kate Keppen from the Berks County Conservation District. “It is about getting students to work together as a team, to realize that learning can take place outdoors, and finally to learn about the environment that we are so fortunate to have. The Envirothon incorporates math, science, history, and problem solving skills to form a great competition. The skills the students build here will last a life time.”
