This year’s winner is Keep Perry County Beautiful with 1,613 tires collected, usurping the coveted ‘Gold Rim’ award from Keep Huntingdon County Beautiful.

“I think the most notable thing about our collection was the number of big tires we received. We would be unloading a truck and we would see two more with big tires coming down the road. The highest tonnage we ever had for this event was 22 tons and this year we had 32.3,” noted Sally Tengeres, Keep Perry County Beautiful Affiliate Coordinator.
PA CleanWays of Mifflin County came in second place, collecting 1,163 tires, Keep Huntingdon County Beautiful collected 1,087 tires, and Keep Juniata County Beautiful earned the ‘Flat Tire’ award with 941 tires collected.
The collections, sponsored in part by the Department of Environmental Protection’s Household Hazardous Waste/Small Business Hazardous Waste Collection Program, have gathered and recycled 25,600 tires from local County residents since 2006.
“These collections provide a convenient, low cost alternative to the community. The tires that are collected at these events won’t end up over the hill where they would be difficult and costly to remove,” said Shannon Reiter, President of Keep Pennsylvania beautiful. “I really commend our affiliates for providing this service and for generating excitement and camaraderie within our network.”
