The Erie Times-News Sunday reported naturalist Jerry McWilliams will be honored by the Friends of the Tom Ridge Environmental Center with the John C. Oliver Environmental Leadership Award on October 10 at a Sunset Celebration at the Presque Isle Lighthouse in Erie.
McWilliams is the volunteer curator of the Ridge Center's Natural History Museum and has written several books about birds.
Also being honored Friday is Austin Fiedler, chairman's award winner of a mixed media student art competition focused on Presque Isle.
The John C. Oliver Award is named for the first board chairman of the Friends of the Tom Ridge Environmental Center and the first secretary of the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
Past recipients include Environment Erie, Pat Lupo, James Bissell, Jean Stull Cunningham, Robert Light and Ed Masteller.
