The Joint Legislative Air and Water Pollution Control and Conservation Committee will hold an Environmental Issues Forum on October 6 featuring recommendations for significantly reducing illegal dumping in Pennsylvania by Keep PA Beautiful.
Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful completed a county-by-county survey of illegal dump sites in 2013. The survey identified over 6,000 illegal dump sites in Pennsylvania, with each site costing an average of $2,947 to remediate.
Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful released a follow-up report with specific recommendations for reducing dump sites at the Solid Waste Association of North America conference earlier this month.
Presenters for the October Forum include Shannon Reiter, President of Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful, and Michelle Nestor of Nestor Resources. They will discuss the severity of Pennsylvania’s illegal dumping problem, and offer recommendations for reducing dump sites across the Commonwealth.
The Forum will be held in Hearing Room 8E-A East Wing of the Capitol Building in Harrisburg starting at Noon.
Sen. Scott Hutchinson (R-Venango) serves as Chair of the Joint Conservation Committee.
