The Fish and Boat Commission, with the help from several partners, are offering 2 different Family Trout Fishing Programs on May 17. Both programs will be from 12:00 p.m. to 5 p.m. and held at Tombs Flat along Pine Creek, Lycoming County.
One program will introduce families to the use of spinning gear to catch trout. Participants will have the opportunity to use spinners and other lures to catch trout on Pine Creek. The other program will introduce families to the use of fly fishing gear to catch trout. Participants in both programs will have the opportunity to catch trout using their new skills.
These programs result from a partnership between Slate Run Tackle Shop, PFBC, Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Bureau of Forestry, local Trout Unlimited Chapters, and several local volunteers. Participants will receive hands-on instruction from the partners. All equipment is provided.
Both programs will include instruction on equipment, casting, lures/flies, knot tying and on-water skills. Using their new skills, participants, will have the opportunity to fly-fish or spinner fish over freshly stocked brown trout; stocking courtesy of Slate Run Tackle Shop. Slate Run will also be providing voluntary youth fishing license vouchers, hot dog lunch, and a fishing goodie bag.
The fishing license requirement is waived for participants age 16 and older. Children must be six years of age and older to participate and be accompanied by an adult. Children must accompany adults.
