PA Environment Digest Blog: TheDerrick.com: Gov. Shapiro Invites Public To Provide Information To State On A.I. Data Center Development In Their Communities Thru New Webpage

On August 22, TheDerrick.com reported the Shapiro Administration launched a new webpage for Pennsylvanians to provide the state with information about new data center proposals, including their location, whether the local community and local leaders support the proposal, and whether the proposal meets Gov. Shapiro’s new data center executive order.

The webpage also accompanies a new DEP Data Center Permit Tracker Map webpage launched last week to provide information on pending DEP permits related to data center projects.

These web resources are part of the announcement made by Gov. Shapiro on August 19 that he signed an executive order laying out standards for data center developers to meet regarding energy affordability, community engagement, workforce and economic development, transparency and environmental protection. Currently the Shapiro Administration is aware of at least 100 data center proposals through crowdsourced platforms - the vast majority of which have not formally approached state government for any discussion of permitting or taken meaningful steps toward development.
