North Country Trail Association
The North Country Trail Association recently announced its first-ever land purchase— the Beaver River Property— to further our goal of permanently protecting the North Country National Scenic Trail and its surrounding landscape.
A landowner near Wampum, Lawrence County agreed to sell approximately 8 acres to the NCTA, helping secure permanent protection for the trail near the Beaver River.
Without this land, nearly four miles of existing trail would need to be relocated.
This project protects 900 feet of existing North Country Trail, ensuring continued access for hikers. It will also conserve the same amount of natural frontage on the Beaver River, an important natural and recreational resource.
Heritage Conservancy
The Heritage Conservancy partnered with Moore Township in Northampton County to conserve 13.26 acres of prime forest and wetlands.
The Carpency Property holds valuable wildlife habitat, a diverse tree canopy, wetlands, and stream frontage that is vital to the health of the local watershed. Its wetlands have environmental value, helping to mitigate the local effects of extreme weather.
