November 8 - 20 residents can drop off all colors of glass bottles, jars and jugs (no sorting required) daily from sunrise to sundown at the City of Johnstown Maintenance Building, 419 6th Ave., Johnstown, PA 15906.
Containers should be empty and rinsed, with lids and labels still on. Bags and boxes used to deliver glass must be discarded off site.
“In the spring, PRC’s Traveling Glass Recycling Bin made a very successful weeklong engagement in Cambria County,” said Josh Schuneman, Collection Events Manager, Pennsylvania Resources Council. “We’re excited that this fall the bright blue bin will return for a two-week engagement at the same convenient location.”
The partnership between PRC and the Cambria County Solid Waste Authority and City of Johnstown provides reliable, uninterrupted glass recycling access.
The program is supported by Owens-Illinois Glass and CAP Glass.
According to Schuneman, glass is one of the most recyclable materials generated in homes, and the market for glass recycling is very strong.
“It’s important from an environmental perspective to keep glass out of landfills, especially since a glass bottle dropped in the bin today can be recycled and back on a store shelf in less than 30 days.”
