House Environmental Committee To Hold Nov. 5 Hearing On Impacts Of Proposed LNG Natural Gas Export Terminal In Southeast PA

The
House Environmental and Natural Resources Protection Committee is scheduled to hold a public hearing November 5 on the potential health, environmental and ratepayer impacts of a Liquified Natural Gas export terminal proposed for southeastern Pennsylvania, according to Rep. Greg Vitali  (D-Delaware), Majority Chair of the Committee.

Penn America Energy has made known its intentions to build an LNG export terminal along the Delaware River to export Pennsylvania’s natural gas. 

The already environmentally overburdened Delaware County municipalities of Chester, Eddystone and Marcus Hook have been speculated as possible locations for the terminal. 

The Committee will hear testimony from community leaders, environmental advocates and others about health and safety impacts on residents living near these facilities, as well as environmental effects on ecosystems.

-- Tracy Carluccio, deputy director, Delaware Riverkeeper Network

-- Zulene Mayfield, chairperson, Chester Residents Concerned for Quality Living

-- James Hiatt, founder, For a Better Bayou

-- Lauren Minsky, visiting assistant professor of health studies, Haverford College

-- Liz Marx, executive director, PA Utility Law Project
