DEP Issues Air Quality Permit For 248 MW Wyalusing Energy Center Natural Gas Power Plant To Serve The Klondike Data Center Project In Bradford County

The Department of Environmental Protection published notice in the October 25 PA Bulletin announcing it has issued a State Air Quality Permit to KDI Wyalusing Power LLC for the proposed
248 MW Wyalusing Energy Center natural gas-fired power plant to serve the Klondike  data center project in Wyalusing Township, Bradford County.
(PA Bulletin, page 7458)

KDI Wyalusing Power LLC is an affiliate of New Fortress Energy Inc., according to DEP

DEP notes in its review memo this is the same site previously issued an Air Quality Plan Approval for an LNG gas processing facility proposed by a subsidiary of New Fortress Energy.

DEP said the eight 31 MW simple cycle combustion generation turbines will not be connected to the electric grid so it will not export any extra power generated, although what KDI does with the power generated is not regulated by DEP.

DEP held a public comment period on the application in July. Read more here.

Interested parties will have 30 days from the October 25 notice to appeal the permit to the Environmental Hearing Board.

DEP notes in its comment/response document, KDI will need a water withdrawal authorization from the Susquehanna River Basin Commission for the project and a related Chapter 105 encroachment permit for the withdrawal point.

KDI will be required to obtain all necessary permits from applicable DEP programs as well as any local zoning or permit permits prior to starting the project.

Visit the DEP Northcentral Regional Office Community Information webpage for a copy of the comment/response document and other information related to this permit.
