DEP Invites Comments On Removal Of 3 Hazardous Waste Sites In Armstrong, Butler, Crawford, Lawrence Counties From State Priority Remediation List

The Department of Environmental Protection published notice in the November 1 PA Bulletin inviting comments on the removal of three hazardous waste sites from the state Priority List Of Sites in Armstrong, Butler, Crawford and Lawrence counties.

The sites include--

-- Dupont New Castle Junk Site, New Castle Lawrence County: A former junk yard, battery recycling, chemical and china manufacturing facility;

-- Bear Creek Area Chemical Site, Fairview, Parker and Concord Townships, Butler County and Perry Township, Armstrong County: Industrial wastes from the former Koppers Company were disposed of over a wide area; and

-- Schiller Site, Richmond Township, Crawford County: A former chemical recovery distillation and disposal facility.

Public comments are due by December 1 - 30 days from the notice.

Comments concerning the removal of any of these Sites from the PAPL should be directed to Joshua Blake, Environmental Cleanup and Brownfields Programs, DEP Northwest Regional Office, 230 Chestnut Street, Meadville, PA 16335 or to josblake@pa.gov

Requests to review the files for the sites should call DEP’s Regional Office at 814-3332-6078.
