DEP Invites Comments On Proposed Hazardous Sites Agreement With Venango County On Cleaning Up Unlined Landfill Site

The Department of Environmental Protection invites comments on a proposed Hazardous Sites Cleanup Act consent order and agreement with the County of Venango concerning an unlined landfill in the Borough of Sugarcreek and City of Franklin.  (

The Site is approximately 2-acres in size and contains an inactive, unlined landfill with mostly construction and demolition debris and various deteriorated drum carcasses containing various metals, polychlorinated biphenyls, volatile organic compounds, and pesticides. 

The specific obligations in the CO&A include-- provide fill soil sufficient to backfill any excavated areas, staging areas, and access routes to the Site; regrade any excavated areas, staging areas, and access routes at the Site; plant grass seed and mulch to promote revegetation in any excavated areas, staging areas, and access routes at the Site.

DEP is accepting comments on the proposed agreement for 60 days.
