Registration Now Open for Keystone Trails Association Spring Hiking Weekend April 21-23 In Tioga County

The
Keystone Trails Association, a statewide organization providing, protecting, preserving, and promoting hiking trails and hiking opportunities in Pennsylvania is holding their annual Spring Hiking Weekend from April 21-23 in Wellsboro, Tioga County - home of Pennsylvania’s Grand Canyon.

Attendees pick their adventures from a list of nearly a dozen guided hikes on nearby trails.

“This year is the Canyon’s 55th anniversary of being designated a National Natural Landmark by the federal government,” shares Brook Lenker, Executive Director of KTA. “Our Spring Hiking Weekend is a fun way for hikers to gather and celebrate this historic milestone by exploring the trails of the Canyon and the surrounding area.”

Featured speakers at the event include Nathan Reigner, Director of Outdoor Recreation, DCNR and Ta Enos, founder and CEO of PA Wilds Center for Entrepreneurship.

Jenn Ulmer, Manager of Trail Maintenance and Training at KTA, will also provide a Trail Care 101 presentation, serendipitously hosted on Earth Day.

On Friday evening, a new KTA film will debut highlighting the impacts of ATVs on Pennsylvania’s public lands. A panel discussion will follow the screening.

Hiking is a healthful activity known to reduce stress, promote cardiovascular fitness, and foster wellness, making April (National Stress Awareness Month) the perfect time for this get-away.

“Trails provide beneficial ‘stimulus’ to people and places,” says Lenker. “They should be accessible to all.”

In that spirit, if someone wants to participate in the Hiking Weekend but cost or transportation is an obstacle, they should contact KTA for possible assistance.

Registration closes Friday, April 7.

The Historic Penn Wells Hotel will be the base camp for this event, which has welcomed visitors to Wellsboro for over 150 years.

The hotel provides a classic, nostalgia-filled experience, accompanied by fine dining in the Penn Wells Hotel’s restaurant, known locally as the Mary Wells Room.

Presentations and speaker programs will take place at the nearby Deane Center for the Performing Arts.
