Register Now For May 2 Tour, May 5 Virtual Pennsylvania Groundwater Symposium

By Andy Yenta, Penn State Extension Educator

The Pennsylvania Groundwater Symposium will be held virtually on May 5, following an optional in-person geology tour on May 2.

In celebration of National Drinking Water Week, Penn State Extension, the Department of Environmental Protection, and numerous other sponsors announce the 2022 Pennsylvania Groundwater Symposium will happen virtually on Thursday, May 5.

People who register for the virtual Symposium may also attend an in-person tour of oil and gas drilling locations in north central Pennsylvania on May 2. Space on the tour is limited.

Details and registration for both events is available online.

The Symposium provides a forum for researchers, students, professionals, and educators working in the groundwater field to exchange information that supports the study, safe utilization, and protection of groundwater resources throughout Pennsylvania.

Although all speaker presentations will take place in a virtual environment utilizing prerecorded talks, live question and answer sessions will happen throughout the day on May 5 so participants will have opportunities to engage with Symposium speakers in real time.

Presenters from academic, public, and private sectors will address a wide variety of important groundwater issues including state and national groundwater planning, water security, and public health.

A live panel discussion focused on shale gas drilling is also scheduled.

All prerecorded talks will be available for registrants to view before the Symposium if they wish. Live sessions will only be available on May 5.

Continuing education credits are available for all sessions including the optional tour.
