Keep PA Beautiful, The GIANT Company Support Projects At Horn Farm Center For Ag Education, York County, Centre County Recycling Center

The
GIANT Company’s Reduced Emissions Program, developed in partnership with GreenPrint, help support local environmental improvement projects at the Horn Farm Center for Agricultural Education in York and the Centre County Recycling Center for Earth Day.

Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful and local county affiliate members, Keep York Beautiful and Keep Centre County Beautiful helped coordinate the events.

Horn Farm Center

On April 20, in partnership with Keep York Beautiful, Horn Farm Center for Agricultural Education hosted 30 volunteers from The GIANT Company who planted approximately 250 trees as a riparian buffer, pulled weeds, spread gravel and cleared brush, making a huge impact on the farm.

Saved from industrial development, Horn Farm Center for Agricultural Education is committed to restoring ecological health to both the fields and semi-wild spaces on the farm, while providing nutritious food to the community.

"We are so grateful for the support of The GIANT Company, Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful, and Keep York Beautiful. Thanks to their partnership, GIANT team members helped to establish and maintain a new riparian buffer planting that will protect and improve the health of a small creek on the farm. Together we are building wildlife habitat, cleaning up our waterways, and helping to mitigate the effects of climate change in York County and beyond." Alexis Campbell, Executive Director, Horn Farm Center.

“It was a great pleasure and honor to coordinate this event with Horn Farm Center and The GIANT Company. Two entities essential to the environmental health and welfare of York County through education and action,” Lee Graybill, Executive Director, Keep York Beautiful.

Centre County Recycling Center

Later in the week, on April 22, team members from The GIANT Company collaborated with Keep Centre County Beautiful to make improvements to the Centre County Recycling and Refuse Authority's compost demonstration site.

Volunteers added raised pollinator garden beds, embankment stabilization, planted juniper shrubs and mulched. Volunteers ended the day by taking a tour of the recycling and refuse facility.

Centre County Recycling & Refuse Authority provides environmentally sound and economically efficient integrated waste management, reduction and recycling services and educational opportunities to the residents of Centre County.

“Education has always been part of this Authority’s mission. To have this army turn out and enhance the educational opportunities around our Interpretive Center was not only practical but really fun! The pollinator gardens will give Centre County residents a new opportunity to see how things fit together in our environment. Backyard composting is a waste reduction technique to reduce waste going for disposal. The refurbished backyard compost demonstration site will serve as a model for residents wanting to institute their own backyard composting,” Jeia Forsyth, Affiliate Coordinator, Keep Centre County Beautiful.”

Through the Reduced Emissions Program, for every gallon of fuel purchased at a GIANT or MARTIN’S fuel station, GreenPrint invests in carbon projects across the globe, which offsets up to 30% of the customer’s tailpipe carbon emissions.

“We want to make sure we are staying true to our promise to heal the planet for future generations and we are proud to work with organizations like Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful and their local affiliates Keep York Beautiful and Keep Centre County Beautiful, who share our commitment,” Jessica Groves, Community Impact Manager, The GIANT Company.

Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful, a state affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, Inc., has more than 30 years of experience in organizing volunteer-driven community improvement events.

“Local improvement projects demonstrate true community spirit and we are honored to partner with The GIANT Company and our local affiliates on the recent beautification efforts through GIANT’S Reduced Emissions Program,” explains Shannon Reiter, President of Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful. “The GIANT Company has been a sponsor of our Pick Up Pennsylvania program for a number of years. We look forward to supporting them as they continue to engage directly in their communities through this partnership.”
