Western/Eastern PA Coalitions For Abandoned Mine Reclamation Now Accepting Applications For ARIPPA Watershed Restoration Grants

The Eastern and Western PA Coalitions for Abandoned Mine Reclamation are now accepting applications for
2026 Watershed Restoration Grants sponsored by the Appalachian Region Independent Power Producers Association. The deadline to apply is April 15.

Since 2010, ARIPPA has partnered with the Eastern and Western Pennsylvania Coalitions for Abandoned Mine Reclamation, EPCAMR and WPCAMR respectively, to offer competitive awards to watershed and conservancy organizations facilitating abandoned mine drainage (AMD) and/or abandoned mine land (AML) remediation projects in Pennsylvania.

Awards are granted under the guidance and administration of EPCAMR and WPCAMR.

To date, ARIPPA has collectively donated $108,000 to various deserving volunteer watershed and conservancy groups actively battling Pennsylvania’s mine legacy problem.

Remediation projects are costly and long-term endeavors with costs averaging at least $8,000 per acre according to the Department of Environmental Protection.

The ARIPPA grants are designed to help watershed and conservancy groups continue their volunteer efforts toward improving our environment.

Grants are awarded to at least one eligible environmental organization or conservation district in the anthracite region and one in the bituminous region in Pennsylvania actively working on AMD/AML issues.

The amount granted is dependent upon demonstrated need.
