US Dept. Of The Interior Announces Pennsylvania Eligible For Up To $152.6 Million In Funding To Plug Abandoned Conventional Oil & Gas Wells

On August 14, the Department of the Interior announced the availability of $775 million for 21 states to clean up legacy pollution through President Biden’s Investing in America agenda.

Through the federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the Department is delivering the largest investment in tackling legacy pollution in American history, including $4.7 billion to plug orphaned wells.

Twenty-one states are eligible to apply for a Phase 2 formula grant and have until December 13, 2024, to submit applications. 

Pennsylvania is eligible to apply for $114,609,711 or up to $152,812,948 Phase II grants, depending on how much the state is awarded in the Phase 1 grant application which is still under review.

DEP continues to issue violations to conventional oil and gas well owners for abandoning wells without plugging them.
