Susquehanna Greenway Partnership Awards Round 2 Mini-Grants

On April 5, the
Susquehanna Greenway Partnership announced the recipients of Round 2 of this year’s Susquehanna Greenway Mini-Grant Program.

Congratulations are in order to the Borough of Milton, Londonderry Township, Susquehanna University, The Merrill W. Linn Land & Waterways Conservancy, and the Town of Bloomsburg for their awarded projects on the Susquehanna Greenway.

Project Summaries

-- Borough of Milton: The Borough of Milton will be replacing three signs to highlight the Borough and the Riverfront district, showcasing Milton’s connection to the Susquehanna River.

The project will include the design and installation of the signs, as well as the beautification of the areas surrounding the signs, which will include native plantings. Signs will be placed at Rte. 405 North & South and Rte. 642 East entrances to the Borough.

-- Londonderry Township: The Conewago Darter 5k Race, fun run, and Field Day, on October 12, 2024, will aim to educate participants and community members about water quality and connect them with Londonderry's natural resources.

Participants will run alongside Londonderry’s .98-mile floodplain restoration, and the race will end with a Community Field Day at which participants can participate in a tree planting, support a local food truck, and chat with conservation partners with booths.

-- Susquehanna University: Susquehanna University plans to expand & enrich the existing Environmental Education Leadership for Students (EELS) program developed by the Middle Susquehanna Riverkeeper Association by providing engagement opportunities for youth through workshops, experiential learning, and mentorship facilitated by faculty, staff, & students at SU’s Center for Environmental Education and & Research to equip EELS participants (High School students) with skills, knowledge, and resources to emerge as effective environmental stewards and leaders.

-- The Merrill W. Linn Land & Waterways Conservancy: The Merrill Linn Conservancy’s primary goals are to engage the public with the natural world through outdoor programming and outreach materials.

Their project will include 10 educational programs to be held on the conservancy’s protected lands, including Nature's Explorers for children & families and Living Landscapes for adults.

The Conservancy will also produce a stock of printed materials (trail guides, water guides, conservation/restoration handouts) to be available at their events, social media, and website.

-- Town of Bloomsburg: The Town of Bloomsburg plans to update outreach and promotional materials related to recently completed projects near Bloomsburg Town Park including the addition of a dog park, free reservable pavilions and a bandshell, the 3-mile Bloomsburg Area Recreational Trail (BART), renovations to the town pool, and newly constructed baseball fields.

Updated pictures, maps, a promotional video, brochures, and website will promote the completed projects and highlight upcoming projects for 2025 including a boat launch at Fishing Creek, pickleball courts, and improvements to the basketball court.

SGP applauds the many fantastic projects that were proposed and looks forward to seeing those outlined above implemented on the Susquehanna Greenway.

The Susquehanna Greenway Mini-Grant Program is financed by a grant from the Community Conservation Partnership Program, under the administration of the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation & Natural Resources (DCNR), Bureau of Recreation and Conservation.
