Penn State Extension To Host Jan. 18 Webinar On Unlocking The Power Of Hydrogen

On January 18,
Penn State Extension will host a webinar on Unlocking the Power of Hydrogen from Noon to 1:00 p.m.

Participants will learn the basics of hydrogen, the role of hydrogen in clean energy, the role of hydrogen in industry and agriculture, and some exciting insights on the future of hydrogen development.

The new MACH2 (eastern PA) and ARCH2 (western PA) hubs announced by the Department of Energy through the Regional Clean Hydrogen Hubs program (H2Hubs) will include hydrogen production, transportation infrastructure, and end-use sites across Pennsylvania.

Background

On October 13, the US Department of Energy awarded two hydrogen hub projects that include Pennsylvania-- a natural gas-based Appalachian Hub in Western PA, West Virginia and Ohio and a Mid-Atlantic Hub in eastern PA, Delaware and New Jersey based on the use of renewable and nuclear energy to make the hydrogen.  Read more here.

On December 15, CNX Resources announced it has ended coordination with the Adams Fork "clean ammonia" project in Mingo County, West Virginia and is evaluating several viable alternative sites in southern West Virginia for clean hydrogen projects.

CNX cited an inability to reach final commercial terms with project developers and delays and increasing uncertainty over implementation rules guiding the use of the 45V hydrogen production tax credit provisions of the federal Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).  Read more here.

On December 22, the U.S. Department of the Treasury and Internal Revenue Service released proposed regulations on the Clean Hydrogen Production Credit established by the federal Inflation Reduction Act.  Read more here.
